What is Past, Present & Future?

It is a personal blog homework assignment for IS223.

I decided to talk about three cars that are important to me and the history behind them. I selected this title because I wish to talk about three cars, therefore making three different posts.

The first blog post will talk about the Citroën 2CV6 (or 2CV). Personally, I have known the 2CV6 as “la deux chevaux”. Popular among collectors and interesting history behind this vehicle.

The second blog post will talk about the Ford Mustang. But not about the collection models and the “old” models, about their legacy and the newer models that are improving, changing trends and adapting over the years.

Finally, the last post will talk about the Tesla Model S, as it was, in my opinion, a milestone in the introduction of electric vehicle to the car market.

Citroen 2CV6

The Citroën 2CV6 from the 1981 James Bond, For Your Eyes Only.

The Citroën 2CV6 (or 2CV) is the most successful French car in the world. Commonly known as “La deux chevaux”, this little French car first introduced at the 1948 Paris Mondial de l’Automobile and manufactured by Citroën for model years 1948-1990. It was designed to transport 4 people, a basket of eggs through a potato field without breaking any eggs.

The first version of “La deux chevaux” was known for its air-cooled front-engine (375cc H2 9hp) with a 4-speed manual transmission. Later on, the car received numerous upgrades; from the rounded to rectangular shaped headlights, back to rounded headlights; to a 425cc H2 12hp to a 435cc H2 24hp to a 602cc H2 29hp engine.

Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang will always have a place in my heart, as one of the most iconic muscle cars.

First generation of Ford Mustang

Since then, Ford has continuously improved the vehicle and try the keep the legend alive until today. The amazing iconic has seen changes in its shapes and designs to follow the trends without losing its true identity. Sometimes it failed and sometimes it looked better than ever.

Evolution of the Ford Mustang

Personally, I think that between 1981 and 1999, the Mustang has seen some rough designs that were too close to its Japanese competitors.

The 2018 refresh brought a more aggressive design to the front end, from the previous 2015 refresh, making the car more aerodynamically stable when entering into corners.

Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S is one of the first electric cars that was equivalent to petrol-engine cars and first hit the car market in 2012. Tesla had already introduced an electric car to the market with the Tesla Roadster but very few of them were made and sold.

Tesla was and is a very young car manufacturer compared to its competitors, at launch the vehicle first suffered quality controls and Tesla had a lot to learn from its competitors in the quality department.

Even though the Model S had these little problems, the car introduces some interesting technologies never seen with other cars manufacturers.

Controlling your car with a giant tablet, making the experience feel like you are using your smartphone.
Controlling the car with your smartphone.
The beta version of what they call the autopilot, which maintains the lines, controlling the speed, the steering, following the car in front, alerting the driver before an accident happens, etc.
OTA updates just like your smartphone, that would bring new features to the car.

The Model S introduced a lot of these technologies that we see now on their competitors. At the time, the Model S raised the bar.

But also in terms of performance, the car was amazingly quick, with the electric motors generating around 700hp (when converting) on the performance models.

The Model S P85D with the Insane Mode Acceleration, then the Model S P90D Ludicrous, and finally the P100D Ludicrous with a mod added that gives it a Launch Control or also known as Rocket Mode.
